All generic top-level domain name extensions and several country-code ones support a security lock feature whose function is to hinder unapproved transfers of active domain names. Many domain registry operators that oversee country-code TLDs that don’t support this option are in the process of introducing it for greater safety and for the convenience of the domain owners. A domain can be transferred only if it is unlocked and only a registrant who has been granted access to the account with the current domain registrar can achieve that. New domains are registered with the lock option enabled intentionally, so as to prevent any unapproved transfer attempts. The lock option is among the security measures for controlling the transfer of active domain names between domain name registrars that have been adopted over the years.
