If you would like to transfer a domain name from one company to another, you’ll need to go through a few security procedures. One of them is obtaining a unique EPP authentication code from the current domain registrar – provided that you are the domain registrant, since the code is emailed to the domain owner’s mailbox and nobody else can obtain it. You will have to give this code to the new registrar company, otherwise they won’t be able to initiate the transfer procedure. The EPP authorization codes are case-sensitive and may comprise of numbers or special symbols such as commas or dots, which can be easily miswritten, so make sure you copy/paste the correct code. As an additional protection measure, the transfer authorization code for a domain may be reset regularly. Some registrar companies call this code an Auth key, a domain secret or a domain password as well.
