Every device that's connected to the web has a distinctive identifier called IP (Internet Protocol) address. This includes personal computers, web servers, smartphones, switches, and so on. The pool of IPs, that was introduced at first, has been distributed, so the so-called IPv4 IP addresses are steadily getting replaced with IPv6 addresses. Every domain name that opens a website comes with an IP record, which is the address of the server where it is hosted. With the IPv4 system, the record is called A and it is comprised of 4 sets of numbers from 1 to 255 split up with a dot, while within the IPv6 system it's called AAAA and it is made up of eight sets of hexadecimal numbers i.e. this type of records use digits from 0 to 9 and letters from A to F. A good example of an AAAA record is 2010:0c48:43d3:2142:1012:8c3a:2475:2435 and this format is designed for a significantly larger amount of IPs compared with the IPv4 format.
AAAA Records in Cloud Website Hosting
If you use a service with a third-party company and you have to set up an AAAA record to forward a domain address or a subdomain to their system, you're going to be able to do that with just a few mouse clicks via the Hepsia Control Panel, provided with all of our cloud website hosting packages. After you sign in, you have to visit the DNS Records section where you are going to find all records for any domain address or subdomain hosted in the account. Creating a new record is as basic as clicking on a button, picking the type from a drop-down menu, that will be AAAA in this case, and then inputting the value, or the actual IPv6 address, within a text box. As an extra option you are able to edit the TTL value (Time To Live), that defines how long the record is going to be live after you edit it or remove it in the future. The new AAAA record will be live in only an hour and will propagate globally two or three hours later, so the hostname for which you have created it will start directing to the new server.
AAAA Records in Semi-dedicated Servers
When you've got a semi-dedicated server account from our company and you need to set up an AAAA record for a domain address you have hosted in it or a subdomain you've set up, it will take you just a few clicks in the Hepsia CP to accomplish this. Even when you have never had a hosting account before, you won't experience any difficulties because you will use a very simple and user-friendly interface. All the DNS records for your domain addresses are going to be listed in a section of the CP with the same name, so as soon as you go there, you will see all records which have been created automatically or manually and you'll be able to set up a new one by simply clicking on the corresponding button. A little pop-up will appear, so with just a few clicks you can choose the type of record you require and for which domain name or subdomain it will be created. After that, just paste the IPv6 address within a text box, save the modification and one hour later the new AAAA record is going to be 100% live. As an optional setting, you may choose the time this record shall be functioning after you change it or delete it in the future. That is the so-called TTL, or Time To Live value of the record, which you can modify from the default 3600 seconds when the other service provider demands it.
